If you're wondering, it's an Osprey called Delila. At least for now anyway.

2 Prophecies, Destiny

Is your UC wordcount off? [28 Nov 2006|11:51pm]
Well, don't delete any words just yet.
This is copied from a post I made in Randy's LJ:

Any "special" characters will get screwed up. If you have a special character in a word, it will count each side of that character of the word as two words. For example, naive (when it has a dotted i) will count as two words. Thus, I had to just put a normal i there.

Same with word's apostrophes, long dashes, etc. So something like don't will count as two words. A long dash in a sentence--like in this one (imagine these two dashes are one long dash)--will also count the two words connected by the long dash as separate words. In that case, however, the behavior is actually correct.

You can fix the apostrophes by pasting your essay into notepad, which will strip out the special apostrophe and quote characters. However, this also kills the long dashes, which *should* count as two words, so you will have to paste back in any long dashes you used. In addition, it will not fix a word like naive, so keep that in mind.

Edit: You shouldn't have any special formatting anyways:
"Don't include any special formatting found in word processing programs, such as bold type or underlining, curly quotation marks ("smart quotes"), font styles, em-dashes, etc. We will not be reviewing your personal statement on the basis of formatting, and the lack of special type or fancy formatting will not disadvantage you in any way."

Well I made that mistake too. Oh well.
